Wedding Cake Trends

December 1, 2009

Your boyfriend has proposed, you’ve set the date and now your getting down to the nity gritty of planning. You’ve got your venue, got your dress, and now its time to order your cake. But what kind do you get. Here are a couple of ideas.

1. Single serving cakes.
You can do many different things with single servings. The most common thing would be cupcakes displayed on a traditional wedding cake tree. you can also get elaborate with this. chose things like eclairs, small tarts with fruit on top, or even cinnamon rolls. The great thing about single serving cakes is that most of them can be made at home and will cost less than a traditional cake.

2. Tall Wedding Cakes
2010 will bring towering wedding cakes. In the past a wedding cake had three tiers, the cakes of 2010 will consist of 5-7. If a 5-7 layer cake is not in your wedding budget you can opt for some fake layers as well as the real ones.

3. Fondant VS. Buttercream
There are two options for frosting on your wedding cake. The traditional option is Fondant. This is the type of frosting that can be molded, If you are going to go with this traditional frosting then make it hip by adding things like ruffles or model the cake decor after the wedding dress. Even though fondant is traditional the trendy option for 2010 is butter cream. This is a sweat treat that wont impact your pocket book as much. Also a skilled artist can make a butter cream look as smooth as fondant.

Ok so I’m not rich or famous, but maybe I can help you make your house look and feel like you are.  Lets start with the kitchen.  Think faux marble and stainless steel, this combo looks like a million bucks but shouldn’t cost that much.  You shouldn’t even have to do more than take the old counter lamination off and put new marble lamination on. As for the stainless steel aspect, there is not much that can be done to get around the price.  Check with different retailers and don’t buy until you know your getting the best price. You can also look for used appliances  and even if they are a bit banged up you can take a circular sander with 600 grit or higher and turn it into a satin finish and you wont be able to tell. You will also want to make sure that your table looks like it belongs in a dining hall of some french chateau. To get this effect you will want quality linens and you can find those at linentablecloth.com. We have quality polyester linens in many colors. Once you have your color scheme planned out, you will want to set your table with formal settings including center pieces and candles. You may also want to get some wall sconces for candles. Now on to the living room. You will want to display a piece of art prominently in your living room. make sure that there is adequate lighting for the piece. It doesn’t matter if it is a painting or a sculpture but you need some kind of art. Another thing that can make your living room look like it cost a lot more than it did is elegant window hangings. You can get these in a few different ways. The first and least expensive way is to make them yourself. You can get cloths that look like expensive satin and lace. The second way to go about getting window hangings would be to look at second hand stores or big discount warehouses. You can usually get items at a fraction of the cost. Make sure that the sitting area is set up so that you have two couches or a bunch of easy chairs facing each other or set in a horse shoe shape this will make it easier to entertain when everyone can look at each other. In the center of the horse shoe shape you will want a coffee table. This is another place that you can save money. If you get a standard unfinished pine you can finish it yourself with a walnut or ebony glaze to make the tablecloth look more elegant than it actually is. I hope these ideas help with the interior decorating of your home.
